why Hire us

save Time

There is plenty of information on the internet and at the library on raising backyard livestock and gardening. So much, in fact, that finding what works for your specific situation can be a daunting task. Often the only way to determine what will work for you is to try it and see if it works, which leads to time-consuming repetitions until you chance upon the right set-up. Our extensive experience can save you research time and prevent the need to keep changing what you're doing.

save Money

Mistakes cost money. Starting over again because a fox got into your coop or spending months buying eggs from the store because you can't figure out why your hens won't lay will cost money. We can offer specific advice to prevent problems from arising, or address the key problems you're already facing, saving you money and frustration.

Save the planet

By producing your own local source of food you reduce the need for conventional farms, reduce carbon emissions from shipping and build a resilient community by creating food security for your family. We can help you set up a system that actually conserves resources and builds the health of your home and community by utilizing and improving forage, compost, and soil in your yard.

Why We Do It

Community Building

Raising animals in your backyard brings you into a deeper connection with your community. You'll see your neighbors more, maybe even swap some extra eggs for a few of their surplus tomatoes. You'll gain a deeper appreciation for local farmers, tap into the grassroots local food movement in your area, and dig your roots down into the earth where you live. Carbon Farming

Food Security

One of the most vital benefits of raising livestock on any scale is the effect on the carbon cycle of the soil. Carbon farming is a powerful way to sequester large amounts of carbon into the soil, which is not only good for the atmosphere, but also good for the soil. Healthier soil means healthier plants, which leads to higher carbon uptake. This can be achieved with rotational growing and properly composting manure in order to return large amounts of carbon to the soil. Check out the link below to see some of our favorite articles and resources about carbon farming.

Food security is another key value that drives the way we live and do business. Food is a basic human need and right, yet access to fresh food is often limited or expensive. Giving people the power to produce fresh nutritious food right in their own backyards, not only vegetables but vital proteins such as eggs, milk, and meat, hands the access to fresh food back where it belongs, in the hands of the people, not the corporations. Check out the link below to see some of our favorite articles and resources about building food security in urban and suburban neighborhoods.
